EMS Literacy Project announces spring launch.

A local non-profit organization has announced the launch of its community wide literacy program in spring 2025. The program that will address reading deficiencies among students from pre-school through 8th grade, will target students primarily in the Scotlandville community.

Punctuated by improved access to books and other reading materials, private tutoring, and reading camps, the project is designed to improve reading proficiencies by at least 3 grade levels within an 18-month period.

The project is seeking support from neighborhoods schools, Churches, college sororities and fraternities, as well as parents in the community in implementing the program. Students will be able to earn cash and prizes for participating, as well as scholarships towards future educational endeavors. Business sponsors are also being sought to support this initiative.

Individuals, businesses and other organizations interested in participating should contact the offices of UEDC for more information. Urban Enterprise Development Collaborative is a registered 501c3 organization.
